MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Traffic is backed up in Murfreesboro after utility crews struck a gas line near a major intersection. Emergency personnel rushed to the scene near Medical Center Parkway and Interstate 24. Crews were installing power poles in the area when they accidentally ruptured the line.
The incident forced police to completely shut down the westbound Interstate 24 off-ramp. Traffic on Medical Center Parkway is also severely restricted, with two lanes closed and only one inbound lane remaining open to drivers.
Rutherford County emergency officials state that repairs will take time. Drivers should expect heavy delays in the area until repairs are made. Authorities urge motorists to avoid the intersection entirely, use alternate routes, and practice extra caution if they must travel through the area.
