The annual event will begin each day with an opening ceremony at 9:45 a.m., featuring athletes marching onto the field led by torch runners in a celebration of determination, inclusion, and community spirit. Track and field competitions will follow, kicking off at 10 a.m.

Elementary and middle school athletes will compete on Monday, May 4, while high school students and adult participants will take center stage on Wednesday, May 6. Adult competitions are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. that day.

Michael McCafferty, Athletic Programs Coordinator and event organizer, emphasized the importance of community support for the athletes.

“So many people in our community have reached out to see what they can do,” McCafferty said. “What we need more than anything is for people to come out and cheer on these athletes to the finish line. It has such an incredible impact on them. We really encourage people to come out in the morning or on your lunch break and just enjoy the Special Olympics experience.”

Participants represent a wide range of organizations, including Murfreesboro City Schools, Rutherford County Schools, local educational day programs, intermediate care facilities, and independent athletes. The event is supported by volunteers from Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation, area high school students, and MTSU athletes.

Competitions will include events such as the 100-meter dash, 25-meter developmental walk, standing long jump, and softball throw. Following each event, athletes will be recognized during award ceremonies and presented with medals celebrating their achievements.

Organizers say the Spring Games highlight not only athletic ability but also the importance of inclusion, encouragement, and community engagement.
