MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - Registration is officially underway for this year’s 4‑H Junior Camp, set for June 8–12, and Rutherford County families are already looking ahead to a week filled with sunshine, new friendships, and plenty of outdoor adventure. The camp is open to youth who have completed 4th through 6th grade and is designed to help young people grow, build confidence, and take a much‑needed break from screens.
Camp Ridley in Columbia, Tennessee, serves as home base for the week. It’s a classic summer‑camp setting where kids can try new activities, explore nature, and enjoy the kind of hands‑on fun that sparks curiosity and independence. The environment is intentionally supportive and safe, giving campers room to stretch their wings while still being guided by trained 4‑H staff.
Registration is available through the Rutherford County Agricultural Extension website, and the cost is That fee covers transportation, meals, lodging in air‑conditioned cabins, and access to all camp activities. And the list of activities is long—swimming, a giant water slide, archery, rifle range, nature center, creek stomping, zip line, s’mores around the campfire, ga‑ga ball, the pollinator garden, crafts, the playground, and more. For many kids, it’s the highlight of their summer.
Families needing financial assistance can apply for scholarships, which will be awarded to selected applicants. Parents must complete the scholarship form on the Extension website by May 1 to be considered.
For those who have questions before signing up, the Extension office welcomes calls at 615‑898‑7710. Parents can ask for a 4‑H agent who can walk them through the process and help determine whether Junior Camp is the right fit for their child.
