MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - The American Red Cross of Tennessee is gearing up for one of its most inspiring annual traditions: the 14th Nissan Heroes Luncheon, set for Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The luncheon has become a signature Middle Tennessee event, honoring people whose courage, compassion and quiet acts of service have made a real difference in the lives of others.
This year’s Hero honoree is John Floyd, founder and owner of Ole South Properties. Floyd is well known for shaping neighborhoods across Middle Tennessee, but the Red Cross notes that his impact goes far beyond construction. Through the John Floyd Charitable Foundation, he has donated more than $5 million to organizations supporting children and families, including Special Kids, the Boys & Girls Club and Good Shepherd’s Children’s Home. He has also been a champion for vocational education, helping revive building‑trades programs in local schools so students can learn skills that lead to stable careers.
The Red Cross will also recognize longtime volunteer and Heart of Tennessee chapter Board Emeritus member Terry Smith as Volunteer of the Year. Smith’s Red Cross journey began 12 years ago when a colleague encouraged her to get involved. That simple invitation sparked more than a decade of service, leadership and hands‑on support for families facing some of their hardest days.
“We look forward to recognizing this year’s Hero and Volunteer of the Year and also sharing stories that reflect the very best of our community,” said John Mitchell, Executive Director of the Heart of Tennessee chapter. “Their selflessness demonstrates the true heart of our mission.”
Guests at the luncheon will hear firsthand accounts of local humanitarian work and learn how their support fuels the Red Cross mission—disaster relief, blood collection, military family support, and lifesaving training that equips neighbors to help one another.
The 2026 Nissan Heroes Luncheon will take place in the MTSU Student Union Ballroom at 1768 MTSU Blvd.
