UPDATED: MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — Detectives with the Murfreesboro Police Department are investigating two unrelated shootings that occurred over the weekend in Murfreesboro, leaving one man dead and two others injured.

The first incident was reported Friday night, Jan. 31, around 9:15 p.m., when officers responded to a “shots fired” call in the 3100 block of South Church Street. While canvassing the area, officers located a 24-year-old man on Meigs Drive suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

During the continued search, officers discovered a second victim, identified as 22-year-old Roger Battle, on London View Drive. Battle had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said three vehicles parked along London View Drive were also struck by gunfire.

Detectives do not believe the Friday night shooting was random and indicated the incident may be drug-related. The case remains under active investigation.

A second, unrelated shooting occurred early Sunday morning, Feb. 1, in the 1600 block of Sulphur Springs Road. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 5:55 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire.

Preliminary information suggests an altercation between two men who knew each other escalated into a shooting. A 25-year-old man was struck by gunfire and transported to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Both cases are being investigated by the department’s Violent Crimes Unit. Police have not released suspect information in either incident and urge anyone with information to contact authorities.
