SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS) - A residential fire and downed live power lines forced an emergency closure of Seminary Road near W. Sagefield Drive on Wednesday afternoon (1-28-2026). Emergency crews from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and the Smyrna Police Department cordoned off the area, blocking all traffic to ensure public safety. Also responding to the fire on Seminary Road Wednesday were crews from the Almaville Volunteer Fire Rescue Department. According to Captain Tracie Parra, the Almaville department arrived with three apparatus.

The closure of the road was triggered after a power line, situated near a house, caught the home on fire. The house quickly became engulfed in flames as the power line snapped and fell to the ground.

Emergency Response in Progress - Firefighters battled the the structure fire that began at around 12:45 in the afternoon. Crews from Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) were dispatched to secure the live lines as the fire fighters fought the blaze.

While the incident was taking place, authorities urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. The scene remained active for several hours. Officials asked for the public's patience as first responders worked to contain the blaze and MTE technicians managed the electrical hazard.
