MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS News) - A quiet, sunny afternoon took a sudden turn around 1:00 o’clock Monday (1/19/2026) along Memorial Boulevard when a three‑vehicle crash brought outbound traffic to a crawl near the Haynes Drive/DeJarnette Lane intersection. It happened right beside SportsCom on a day when the mid‑40s temperatures and clear skies offered no hint of trouble.

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services transported one person to the ER at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital with what responders described as non‑life‑threatening injuries. The vehicles involved included a 2015 grey Nissan Altima, 2019 silver Lexus RC sport coupe, and a 2007 maroon Toyota Corolla. It all happened in the outbound lane, forcing drivers to ease around the scene while Murfreesboro Police along with Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue worked through the details.

Officers are still piecing together exactly what happened, but early indications point to something routine for a city growing as quickly as Murfreesboro. With the community continuing to rank as the 16th fastest‑growing city in the nation over 100,000 population, the roads are simply carrying more people than ever. More households mean more cars, more regional pass‑through traffic, and more pressure on intersections that weren’t built for today’s volume. In fact, the SmartAsset analysis shows Murfreesboro’s population has grown 20% over the 5-years period.

And while Memorial Boulevard is undeniably busy, especially near SportsCom, there’s nothing in publicly available crash data that suggests this stretch of roadway is a problem spot. It doesn’t appear on the city’s list of historically high‑crash intersections, which typically includes places like Old Fort Parkway at Thompson Lane, Broad and Memorial, the I‑24 interchanges, and the commercial corridors around The Avenue.

In other words, everything about Monday’s crash points to the kind of incident that happens when a lot of cars share the same space: a quick lane change or a gap that wasn’t quite as wide as it looked. Those small decisions can ripple fast in heavy midday traffic.

When Murfreesboro Police release their preliminary crash report, NewsRadio WGNS will share the details.
