SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. — 20-Minutes south of Murfreesboro in Bedford County, administrators at Shelbyville Central High School, working alongside local law enforcement, responded swiftly late last night after receiving a report concerning a possible weapon on campus.

According to officials, around 10:00 p.m., school administrators and the Bedford County Sheriff’s Department were notified of a tip received by law enforcement indicating that a student had told a parent another student might be bringing a gun to school. In response, school officials and deputies coordinated throughout the night to identify the student referenced in the report.

Early this morning, before students arrived on campus, a thorough search was conducted with assistance from both the Sheriff’s Department and the Shelbyville Police Department. Authorities confirmed that no weapon was found and determined the reported threat was not valid.

Out of an abundance of caution, school officials implemented temporary safety measures at the start of the school day, including limiting building access to a single entry point. Normal operations resumed at approximately 7:45 a.m., when the bell was released to allow students to enter the building, a decision made in coordination with law enforcement. Students were also interviewed earlier in the morning to confirm details related to the report before regular activities resumed.

Officials emphasized that the school was never placed on lockdown, no weapon was brought onto campus, and no random searches were conducted.

School administrators noted that the incident highlights the importance of the “See something. Say something.” approach, thanking the student and parent who reported the concern. Officials say timely reporting allows schools and law enforcement to respond quickly and appropriately to potential safety issues.

Student safety remains the top priority, and administrators expressed appreciation to parents and the community for their cooperation and support during the situation.
