MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School briefly went into lockdown after third-grade students mistakenly reported seeing a person with a gun behind the school. According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, officers responded promptly to the report, canvassed the surrounding area, and identified a nearby residence on Maymont Drive connected to the incident.
Police said a 13-year-old home-schooled student told officers that several Saint Rose students had been antagonizing his dog, which was inside a fenced backyard. The teen stated that he confronted the students, who then ran away and mistakenly reported that he had a gun.
Investigators reviewed home surveillance video from the residence, which confirmed that the teen did not possess a firearm during the encounter.
After determining there was no credible threat to students or staff, police lifted the lockdown at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School. No charges were filed, and the incident was classified as a misunderstanding.
