MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Matt Kriesky has resigned as head football coach at Blackman High School, ending a three-year tenure with the program. Kriesky informed school officials Thursday morning that he is stepping away from football to spend more time with his family.
Blackman High School Principal Justin Smith said Kriesky’s decision follows a period of significant success for the program.
“This morning, I was informed by Coach Kriesky that he is choosing to step away from football in order to focus on time with his family,” Smith said. “We could not have been more pleased by the impact that he and his staff have had on our football program, our school, and the entire Blackman community. In three years, he has led our program to its winningest season in school history and to a state semifinal appearance.”
Smith also cited Kriesky’s involvement with students beyond athletics.
“More importantly, the way in which he invested deeply into caring for all students, including our student-athletes, has been exceptional,” Smith said. “We will begin our search immediately to find the next head coach to lead our program and to continue to build upon this solid foundation of character, culture, and success — both in the classroom and on the field.”
Kriesky, a native of Paris, Tennessee, was hired as Blackman’s head coach in 2023 after previous head coaching experience at Centennial High School and other programs in Middle Tennessee.
Under Kriesky’s leadership this season, Blackman reached the state semifinals this season for the second time in school history and finished with a 12-2 record, the best in program history.
The school is expected to begin its search for a new head football coach immediately.
