MURFREESBORO, TN - A quiet Tuesday evening (12/23/2025) took a frightening turn for one Murfreesboro family after a fire broke out at their home on Elliott Drive, near the Sulphur Springs and Northfield Boulevard area. Fire Chief Mark McCluskey and multiple units from Murfreesboro Fire Rescue responded swiftly after smoke was reported coming from the residence.
According to officials, a woman arriving at the home first noticed smoke and immediately called for help. Fire crews discovered that the blaze had started on the back porch and was pushing heavy smoke through the home’s vents. Thanks to their quick action, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread deeper into the structure.
One adult male was inside the home when the fire began and suffered injuries and smoke inhalation. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. No additional details about his condition were available, but responders emphasized that getting him care quickly was their top priority.
The Fire Marshal’s Office remained on the scene into the late night hours, working to determine what caused the fire and to monitor any hot spots. Unfortunately, the damage left the home unlivable. The American Red Cross came to the Elliott Drive address and are helping the homeowner during the difficult days ahead.
Units responding to the call included L6, L4, L1, R4, BC1, BC2, S1, S2, Car 131, and Fire Chief McCluskey.
NewsRadio WGNS extends its appreciation to Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue, Murfreesboro Police, Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services, the American Red Cross, and Middle Tennessee Electric for their swift response to the blaze that broke out just hours before Christmas Eve.
