MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Murfreesboro police are investigating two separate crashes that occurred Sunday (December 21st), leaving one woman dead and several others injured at busy city intersections.

The first crash happened at approximately 8:14 a.m. on Old Fort Parkway at the Interstate 24 overpass. According to investigators, a vehicle driven by 64-year-old Deborah Hensel rear-ended a 2026 Ford F-350 that was stopped at a traffic light waiting to merge onto I-24. Hensel was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford F-350, a 27-year-old man, was transported to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital, where he was treated and later released. The Old Fort Parkway overpass and all I-24 ramps in the area were shut down for several hours as police conducted their investigation.

Later that afternoon, at around 2:21 p.m., a second serious crash occurred on Veterans Parkway at Armstrong Valley Road. Investigators said the driver of a 2015 Toyota Corolla ran a red light and collided with a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck. The force of the impact pushed the pickup into an SUV and a Jeep that were both stopped at the intersection.

Two occupants of the pickup truck were airlifted to a hospital by separate medical helicopters. Police said both individuals are in stable condition. Additional minor injuries were reported at the scene.

Both crashes remain under investigation by the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT). Authorities have not released further details and say additional information will be provided as the investigations continue.
