MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Middle Tennessee head football coach Derek Mason announced the addition of Anthony Scelfo as offensive coordinator and Christopher Browne as offensive line coach, rounding out key leadership roles on the Blue Raiders’ offensive staff. Scelfo replaces Bodie Reeder, while Browne fills the vacancy left by Kendall Simmons.

Scelfo arrives in Murfreesboro following five seasons at Southeastern Louisiana, including the last two as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Under his leadership in 2025, the Lions posted a 9–4 record and advanced to the FCS Playoffs, with the offense ranking among the nation’s leaders in red zone efficiency, scoring, and rushing production. Four offensive players earned all-conference recognition during the campaign.

“Anthony and Chris are outstanding additions to our staff,” Mason said. “They bring established offensive identities, strong recruiting backgrounds, and a clear understanding of what it takes to win at a high level. Most importantly, they are aligned with our vision and will have an immediate impact on our players and culture.”

In 2024, Scelfo’s offense averaged 29 points per game in Southland Conference play and produced three first-team All-Southland selections, highlighted by a 1,200-yard rusher and multiple all-conference skill position players. He previously coached wide receivers and tight ends at Southeastern Louisiana and was part of the Lions’ 2022 Southland Conference championship run.

Prior to his time at SLU, Scelfo spent three seasons at Northwestern State, where he helped quarterback Shelton Eppler set multiple school passing records. He began his coaching career as an offensive graduate assistant at UTSA. A former two-sport athlete at Tulane, Scelfo also played professional baseball in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. He holds a degree in political science from Tulane and is joined in Murfreesboro by his wife, Bailey, and their three sons.

“Anthony is a bright, innovative offensive mind who understands how to build an offense around his personnel,” Mason said. “His experience in quarterback development, game planning, and recruiting speaks for itself.”

Browne joins the Blue Raiders after spending the 2025 season at Arkansas as an offensive line assistant and assistant running game coordinator. The Razorbacks ranked third in the SEC in rushing and finished among the top 30 nationally.

Before Arkansas, Browne served as offensive line coach at Alabama State, producing three all-conference selections and an FCS All-American in 2024. He also assisted the offensive line at Iowa during the Hawkeyes’ 10-win 2023 season and has participated in the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers.

A Cleveland native, Browne was a standout offensive lineman at Southern, earning two FCS All-American honors and serving as a three-year team captain. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern and an MBA from Lincoln University.

“Chris brings a detail-driven mentality that will create an identity of toughness and technical mastery,” Mason said. “His experience at the collegiate and professional levels will make an immediate difference.”
