MURFREESBORO, TN - The UT-TSU Agricultural Extension Service at the Lane Agri-Park, 315 John R. Rice Boulevard, continues to open doors for community learning with a full slate of programs this winter and spring. From gardening and sewing to youth clubs and fitness, the Extension Service is offering opportunities for all ages to grow, create, and connect.
GARDEN BASICS - Gardeners eager to prepare for spring can join Garden Basics 1, a four-week program hosted by the Rutherford County Master Gardeners. Running Thursday evenings from February 19 through March 12, the series will cover challenges of growing in Tennessee, seeds and propagation, raised beds, and best planting practices. 4-H HORSE CLUB - The 4-H Horse Club recently celebrated its annual Holiday/Dirty Santa Night, where members enjoyed trivia games and exchanged gifts. Wren took home the win in the “Animals in Christmas Songs” contest, and laughter filled the evening. Students in grades 4 through 12 are invited to join the club at its next meeting on January 12, from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. in the Ag Extension Community Classroom. SEWING - Creativity will take center stage on January 29 with Sew in Love: Create a Valentine’s Pillow. This hands-on workshop, perfect for adults and high school students, offers two sessions—afternoon from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. and evening from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.—in the Lane Agri-Park Auditorium. The cost is $20, and participants will leave with a handmade pillow to keep or gift.
4-H YOGA FOR KIDS - For young people seeking calm and focus, 4-H Yoga for Kids provides beginner-friendly classes for grades 4 through 12. Sessions will be held on January 13, February 3, and March 3 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Community Center Building. Mats are provided, and the fee is $5 per class. CHICK CHAIN - Looking ahead, the Chick Chain Project is ready to welcome participants interested in raising chicks. This hands-on program teaches poultry care and responsibility, offering a fun and educational experience for youth and families alike.
