CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WGNS) — The Oakland Patriots cemented their place as one of Tennessee’s premier high school football dynasties Saturday night, powering past Ravenwood 62-21 at Finley Stadium to claim the Class 6A state championship — the program’s ninth state title in school history.
The night belonged to senior running back Craig Tutt, who delivered a dominant MVP championship game performance. He rushed 32 times for 226 yards and seven touchdowns, tying the state championship game record for rushing TDs. He now shares that mark with former Beech High School standout Jalen Hurd, who also scored seven touchdowns in the 2012 Class 5A title game. Hurd went on to play in college at the University of Tennessee and Baylor before being selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
Tutt's final touchdown to tie the record came just as the game ended and here's the call from WGNS' Bryan Barrett:
Oakland’s ground attack rolled up 405 rushing yards behind Tutt, Donte Cameron (97 yards, 1 TD), and a physical offensive line that controlled the game throughout. The Patriots finished with 499 yards of total offense and held the ball for more than 32 minutes, keeping Ravenwood’s offense on the sideline.
The Patriots set the tone early with Cameron’s 41-yard touchdown burst on the opening drive. From there, Tutt took over, scoring three first-half touchdowns as Oakland built a commanding 28–7 halftime lead. He added four more scores in the second half, including a 47-yard sprint in the fourth quarter that sealed the record-tying performance.
Oakland’s defense also delivered a statement, forcing three fumbles and grabbing an interception while allowing just 66 rushing yards. The Patriots’ pressure repeatedly disrupted Ravenwood’s backfield, resulting in negative plays and short drives.
The win also adds another milestone to the resume of Head Coach Kevin Creasy, who has now captured six state championships at Oakland since taking over the program and ninth overall, including three from his tenure at Trousdale County.
The Patriots ended the season undefeated, 15-0, and deliver Rutherford County its 17th state championship since the first by the 1970 Central Tigers.
