Rutherford County Could See Wintry Mix Tonight; Light Ice Possible on Bridges and Overpasses

Dec 04, 2025 at 01:49 pm by Rutherford Weather

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County may see a brief touch of winter weather tonight as a cold, light precipitation system moves into Middle Tennessee. While the National Weather Service says cold rain is still the most likely outcome, there is a slight chance that parts of the county could experience a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, and a few wet snowflakes overnight.

Temperatures in Murfreesboro, Smyrna, and La Vergne are expected to hover near freezing late tonight. That means travel impacts cannot be ruled out, especially on elevated surfaces. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads could become slick if even a small amount of ice develops.

The best chance for freezing rain remains east of Rutherford County toward the Plateau, but northern Middle Tennessee—including areas just north of I-40—have a slight chance for a dusting of snow. For Rutherford County residents, any snow that falls would be light and brief.

After this system moves out Friday morning, Rutherford County will see dry and cool conditions through the weekend. Longer-range outlooks show below-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation next week.
