MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Plans have shifted for one of downtown Murfreesboro’s most anticipated seasonal events. WGNS confirmed Friday morning that Main Street Murfreesboro has officially postponed the “Downtown After 5: Holiday Edition” event that was originally scheduled for tonight, November 7, due to the threat of severe weather. The changes were made out of an abundance of concern for shoppers, visitors from other areas, local families, friends and loved ones, in addition to business owners and employees that planned to stay later than usual for this special event.  and more.

Main Street Murfreesboro Executive Director Sarah Callender told WGNS that the decision was made out of caution for both attendees and local merchants participating in the outdoor celebration. The rescheduled date is next Friday, November 14, beginning at 5:00 p.m. on the historic Murfreesboro Public Square.

The Downtown After 5 event invites residents and visitors to enjoy an evening of late-night shopping, dining, and holiday-themed activities while supporting locally owned businesses. Shoppers can browse boutiques, gift shops, and restaurants offering extended hours, specials, and seasonal treats leading into the holiday shopping season.

“This is always a great night to kick off holiday shopping while enjoying the charm of the square,” the organization previously shared. “We want families to experience downtown safely and comfortably, and postponing gives everyone the best experience.”

Free parking will still be available in both downtown parking garages and in all on-street spaces, with no time limits on evenings or weekends.

The popular Shop Small Gift Basket Giveaway—featuring baskets filled with items donated by downtown businesses—will still take place on the new event date.
