Dr. Dan Rudd to Share Vital Updates on COVID-19, Influenza, and RSV--8:15AM Monday on WGNS

Oct 25, 2025 at 06:50 pm by WGNS News

Rutherford County, TN - As cooler weather settles over Tennessee, health officials are bracing for a familiar but formidable trio: COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued its seasonal outlook, and it’s clear—this fall and winter could mirror last year’s respiratory virus surge, with hospitalizations expected to peak from all three illnesses. This Monday's WGNS Action Line will feature Dr. Dan Rudd from 8:15 to 9:00AM, offering listeners a chance to hear directly from the physician who guided this community through the days of the pandemic. His broadcasts began on January 16, 2020, just as Tennessee activated its State Health Operations Center. That was weeks before the first confirmed case in neighboring Williamson County. Dr. Rudd’s calm, clear updates became a trusted lifeline during those uncertain times.

Now, nearly six years later, COVID-19 remains a moving target. The virus continues to evolve, and this season brings a new variant—XFG—which Dr. Rudd will explain during Monday’s morning's radio show. He’ll also unpack the CDC’s revised vaccine recommendations, which have shifted away from blanket guidance.

CDC Now Recommends Individual-Based COVID-19 Vaccination Decisions

As of October 2025, the CDC now encourages “shared clinical decision-making,” meaning individuals aged 6 months and older should consult with a healthcare provider—whether a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist—before receiving the vaccine. The FDA has approved updated vaccines for those 65 and older and for younger individuals with underlying health conditions.

This has sparked confusion nationwide, especially as COVID-19 continues to circulate at high levels. Dr. William Schaffner of Vanderbilt University Medical Center recently emphasized that hospitalizations are still occurring, particularly among those who are unvaccinated or overdue for boosters.

Flu and RSV Also on the Rise—Vaccines Available Now

The CDC and Tennessee health officials are urging residents to get vaccinated against the flu and RSV as well. Flu season typically peaks between December and February, while RSV has already begun circulating. Vaccines for both are available, with RSV protection recommended for infants and older adults.

Dr. Rudd will address how these viruses interact, what symptoms to watch for, and how to protect vulnerable family members. Listeners can text questions during the live broadcast to (615) 893-1450.

A Familiar Voice in Unfamiliar Times

Dr. Rudd’s return to WGNS comes at a moment when clarity is needed more than ever. His dedication to staying informed and translating complex medical updates into everyday language has earned him the trust of Rutherford County and beyond.
