Murfreesboro, TN - The Murfreesboro Police Department celebrated a new chapter of leadership this week as Chief Michael Bowen announced the promotion of six officers during a ceremony held Friday, October 17, at department headquarters. Two sergeants—Sean Garrison and Travis Ledford—were elevated to the rank of lieutenant, while officers Carlie Coe, Justin Fugate, Jessica Hawkins, and Ben Leibach were promoted to sergeant.
“These employees have served our community with professionalism and integrity,” said Chief Bowen. “We proudly recognize the leadership and dedication of these six outstanding officers.”
Lt. Sean Garrison, who joined MPD in 2004, brings over two decades of experience to his new role. His career has spanned patrol, field training, criminal investigations, and internal affairs. He has led the Violent Crimes Unit and served as an instructor in multiple disciplines. Garrison holds a degree from Middle Tennessee State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Theology.
Lt. Travis Ledford began his service in 2011 and has worked in patrol, narcotics, and violent crimes. He was promoted to sergeant in 2021 and has completed the Southeastern Leadership Academy. He also holds a finance degree from MTSU.
Sgt. Carlie Coe, a U.S. Army National Guard veteran, joined MPD in 2018 and currently serves as assistant commander of the Fatal Accident Crash Team. Sgt. Justin Fugate, with the department since 2017, has a background in homicide investigations and is a Marine Corps veteran.
Sgt. Jessica Hawkins, who joined in 2011, has served in multiple specialized roles including Crisis Intervention and instructor development. Sgt. Ben Leibach, a Marine Corps veteran and former K-9 handler, has been with MPD since 2015 and brings extensive tactical and instructional experience.
The promotions reflect MPD’s ongoing commitment to professional growth and community-focused leadership.
