PODCAST: In this episode of the WGNS Action Line, host Scott Walker sat down with veteran photojournalist and MTSU alumnus Bill Steber to discuss the upcoming screening of “Deep Roots: The Art and Music of Bill Steber and Friends.” The feature-length music film, directed by Robert Mugge and produced with Diana Zelman, will be shown on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m. in Room 103 of the John Bragg Building at MTSU.

The documentary serves as a companion to Mugge’s 1991 film “Deep Blues” and focuses on Steber’s life, art, and music while celebrating the Black and white musical traditions of the 1920s and 1930s. The film highlights both Murfreesboro’s cultural scene and the Mississippi Delta, long central to Steber’s work.

Following the screening, attendees will enjoy a Q&A session with Mugge, Steber, and music journalist Ron Wynn. The event is free and sponsored by the MTSU Department of Media Arts and the Scott Borchetta College of Media and Entertainment.

THURSDAY: The film will be screened beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, in Room 103 of the John Bragg Building, 1725 Blue Raider Drive. A campus parking map is available at https://bit.ly/ParkingMapMTSU2025.
