MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (September 8, 2025) — Four men from Texas have been extradited to Murfreesboro to face charges in connection with an attempted ATM theft at a 7-Eleven Exxon on East Northfield Boulevard that turned deadly on August 1.
The suspects — identified as DeAndre Hanks, Tyron Patton, Khamondre Phillips, and Meki Hill, all from the Dallas area — were initially arrested in Arkansas after fleeing Tennessee. They each face two counts of theft of property involving stolen vehicles and burglary.
According to Murfreesboro Police, the incident began around 5 a.m. on August 1 when several individuals used a stolen pickup truck to smash through the convenience store window. They then attached a guy wire to an ATM and attempted to pull it from its foundation. During the attempted theft, a customer inside the store opened fire, striking one of the suspects. The man, later identified as 23-year-old Tyrese Walder, was pronounced dead at the scene by Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services.
Police interviewed the customer who fired the fatal shots and released him pending further investigation. Detectives emphasized that the case remains active, but no charges have been filed against the customer.
Following the attempted theft, suspects abandoned the stolen truck at Chariot Pointe Apartments with the guy wire still attached. Officers also recovered a stolen SUV believed to be connected to the crime.
With the help of license plate reader cameras and analysts at the Murfreesboro Police Real-Time Crime Center, investigators identified the getaway vehicle used by the suspects. A nationwide alert was issued, and Arkansas State Police stopped the suspects’ SUV as they were reportedly heading back to Texas. The four men were arrested and later extradited to Rutherford County.
Deputies booked the suspects into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center:
-
DeAndre Hanks: held on a $160,000 bond, hearing set for Sept. 12
-
Khamondre Phillips: held on a $60,000 bond, hearing set for Sept. 12
-
