MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) – The Child Advocacy Center (CAC) marked a major milestone Monday, August 11, 2025, celebrating 25 years of service to children and families impacted by abuse in Rutherford and Cannon Counties.
The anniversary celebration was held at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Community members, local leaders, and supporters gathered for light refreshments, a look back at the CAC’s impact, and remarks from several guest speakers.
Since opening its doors in 2000, the Child Advocacy Center has worked closely with the Child Protective Investigative Team to respond to cases involving child abuse, child sexual abuse, and drug-endangered children. Over the past quarter century, the organization has served more than 50,000 individuals, including over 21,000 children and 17,000 adults who have participated in the Darkness to Light child sexual abuse prevention training program.
“In the last 25 years, the Child Advocacy Center has been blessed with dedicated employees, committed volunteers, an outstanding Board of Directors, amazing partnerships with the Child Protective Investigative Team, and incredible community support,” said Sharon De Boer, Executive Director of the Child Advocacy Center. “Some of the best people in this community have dedicated their careers to making a difference in children’s lives. We were so excited to celebrate this milestone with the community that has supported us every step of the way.”
During the event, De Boer was recognized for her leadership over the past 25 years as the Center’s founding Executive Director, guiding the organization from its inception to the respected community resource it is today.
Speakers at the celebration included Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr, child sexual abuse survivor Evane Stone, CAC Executive Director Sharon De Boer, and Murfreesboro City Schools Director Dr. Trey Duke.
WGNS was on site with Big G TV to record the event, including the full remarks from the speakers. You can watch the video in this story or on our social media channels.
