THP Boosts Road Rage Enforcement in Rutherford County with More Troopers, Unmarked Patrol Cars

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WGNS) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol has expanded its efforts to reduce road rage and improve traffic safety in Rutherford County and statewide, by increasing manpower and deploying new enforcement tactics.

More than 300 new state troopers have been added across Tennessee in response to growing traffic demands and population increases. The agency says it is also holding additional trooper and dispatcher academies to ensure faster response times and more thorough coverage.

To combat aggressive and dangerous driving, the Highway Patrol has introduced unmarked vehicles specifically targeting road rage, impaired driving, distracted driving, and excessive speeding. These vehicles operate alongside traditional patrols and are focused on identifying risky behavior before it escalates.

“We have increased our education and traffic enforcement efforts in all areas of traffic and criminal activities,” the agency said in a statement.

THP is also partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office to expand public education on safe driving habits. Part of that campaign includes urging drivers not to engage with aggressive motorists.

“We inform motorists to back away from the situation and to alert law enforcement immediately. If motorists are a witness to a road rage incident, we encourage that if you see something, say something,” the agency stated.

These efforts follow similar strategies seen locally in Murfreesboro, Smyrna, La Vergne and along I-24 in Rutherford County, where law enforcement continues to emphasize the importance of alert driving and public cooperation.

Motorists can report road rage incidents by calling 847 (*THP) or 911.
