RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. – A coordinated investigation involving multiple federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies has led to the arrest of a Memphis man accused of targeting elderly victims in a cybercrime scheme.
The joint operation included the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Tennessee Highway Patrol, Smyrna Police Department, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Dickson County Sheriff’s Office, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Cybercrime and Digital Evidence Unit.
On June 26, investigators identified two elderly victims in Rutherford County who had reportedly been targeted in an international cyber theft operation. Following continued investigative efforts, agents arrested Dipen Patel (DOB 2/8/2000) on Monday, charging him with one count of Theft of Property – Value of $60,000 or More.
Patel was booked into the Rutherford County Jail, where he remained held on a $65,000 bond at the time of this release.
Authorities emphasized that the criminal charge is an allegation and that Patel is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
