MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) – In a major breakthrough, local and federal authorities have seized approximately 62 pounds of methamphetamine, six pounds of fentanyl, seven firearms and an undisclosed amount of cash following a six-month investigation centered in Murfreesboro.

The investigation, launched after a fatal overdose in December 2024, was conducted by the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Overdose Unit in partnership with the DEA Task Force Group One and the Tennessee National Guard’s Counter Drug Task Force Analyst. It also expanded into Nashville and California. The seizure, described at a press conference on June 25, 2025, marks one of the region’s most significant recent drug busts.

Authorities confirm the operation began after in-depth work by the Overdose Unit, which led to the uncovering of cross-state trafficking. The collaboration culminated in confiscating:

  • 62 lbs of methamphetamine

  • 6 lbs of fentanyl

  • 7 firearms

  • A substantial, undisclosed amount of money

According to Murfreesboro PD, the investigation remains active, with additional arrests and charges expected. Officials credit the combined efforts of local, state, and federal agencies for the success of the operation.

The continued investigation aims to dismantle the full supply chain and deliver further accountability.
