MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – If your child has ever dreamed of throwing the game-winning touchdown or leading the crowd in a spirited halftime cheer, now’s the perfect time to get them off the couch and into the game. Murfreesboro Parks & Recreation has officially opened registration for youth cheerleading and flag football, two of the city’s most exciting and energetic sports! Not to mention, one of the best age groups for parents capture memorable pictures and maybe a few laughs.

These programs are open to new participants now through July 11, 2025, and the season is packed with fun, teamwork, and just the right amount of healthy competition. Whether your child is a seasoned sideline star or a future quarterback in training, there's a spot on the team just waiting for them.

Cheerleading and flag football are big hits with area children – and now’s the time to sign your young Heisman Trophy winner up (Heisman Trophy winner in the making, of course)… That was Brittany Garret from the City’s Athletic Department within the Parks & Rec.

Parents can register their children online at MurfreesboroParks.com or swing by in person at places like Patterson Park, SportsCom, or any other city rec facility. Once the games begin in August, you’ll hear the laughter, see the high-fives, and maybe even a touchdown dance or two... The memories made on these fields are priceless – and the friendships can last a lifetime.

Of course, the volunteer coaches have to instill in each player the need to pull the flag… Don’t worry if your child isn’t NFL-ready just yet. The league is all about having fun, learning new skills, and building confidence – though, let’s be honest, some parents can’t help but dream big.
