SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS) – Nissan’s Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant is celebrating a major manufacturing milestone: the production of the 700,000th Murano crossover assembled in the United States.

While early production of the Murano took place at Nissan’s Canton, Mississippi facility between 2014 and 2020, the Smyrna plant has since become the exclusive home for the crossover—and today, it's where more than 6,700 Muranos roll off the line each month.

"This milestone is a testament to the incredible dedication of our local workforce," said Brian Crockett, vice president of manufacturing at the Nissan Smyrna plant. "The skill, attention to detail, and pride that our team brings to every vehicle is what makes moments like this possible."

The Murano, known for its sleek design and comfortable ride, was recently ranked in the Top 100 of the 2025 Cars.com American-Made Index, highlighting its strong contribution to the U.S. economy in terms of domestic production, sourcing, and job creation.

A Cornerstone of Local Industry

Opened in 1983, the Smyrna plant was the first auto assembly facility in Tennessee and remains one of the largest automotive manufacturing sites in the country. Nissan has invested $8.8 billion into the Smyrna operations, which currently employ more than 5,700 people. In addition to the Murano, the plant also assembles the Pathfinder, Rogue, and INFINITI QX60.

For the Town of Smyrna and Rutherford County, the plant represents not just a source of jobs but a pillar of economic stability and growth. The continued production of vehicles like the Murano highlights the region’s role in global automotive manufacturing and reinforces Smyrna’s reputation as a hub for innovation and craftsmanship.

As the Murano continues to evolve with advanced design and cutting-edge features—including dual high-definition displays, massaging front seats, and two-tone exterior options—its roots remain firmly planted in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Looking Ahead

With an annual production capacity of 500,000 vehicles, Nissan Smyrna is poised to remain at the forefront of the company’s U.S. manufacturing efforts, contributing to both the local economy and the national automotive landscape.
