Murfreesboro, TN - Ever wondered how people can talk around the world without a cellphone or the internet? The Stones River Amateur Radio Club is inviting the community to discover just that during this weekend’s ARRL Field Day, held at Barfield Crescent Park (697 Veterans Parkway) this Saturday and Sunday, June 28–29, 2025.

Starting around 10:00 o'clock Saturday morning, local ham radio enthusiasts will begin setting up antennas and radio equipment at Shelters 3 and 4, transforming the park into a hub of worldwide communication. From 1:00 p.m. Saturday through Sunday afternoon, visitors can watch as operators connect with stations across the globe—live, and in real time. The event runs 24/7 Saturday through Sunday at lunchtime.

The local ARRL Field Day is more than just a tech demonstration, this open house is a chance to learn how amateur radio—also known as ham radio—supports communities, especially in emergencies. Whether it's spotting severe weather for the National Weather Service or stepping up during disasters when traditional communication fails, these dedicated volunteers make a real difference.

Hosted in conjunction with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the theme of this year’s Field Day is “Radio Connects,” highlighting how amateur radio links people and communities. Club members will be on hand to share their knowledge, demonstrate equipment, and even talk about how newcomers can earn their FCC radio licenses through local classes.

Whether you're a curious observer or a future operator, the Stones River Amateur Radio Club welcomes you to stop by, chat, and see how radio brings people together—across town, around the world, or even into space. Again, it's this Saturday and Sunday in picnic shelters 3 and 4 at Barfield Crescent Park (697 Veterans Parkway). Oh--it's free!
