RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS) - The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), along with local law enforcement agencies, will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday night aimed at identifying impaired drivers and promoting traffic safety.
The checkpoint is scheduled from 10 p.m. to midnight at U.S. Highway 231 North near Arnold Drive.
Troopers will be joined by members of the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force, including officers from various local agencies. THP Sgt. Barry Qualls said the effort is part of a coordinated push to reduce crashes and promote responsible driving.
“Several first responders in the area will be looking for impaired drivers,” Qualls said. “We urge people to drive safely and not drive under the influence.”
The checkpoint’s objectives include reducing crashes, using high visibility to encourage voluntary compliance with traffic laws, and reminding motorists to designate a sober driver or arrange a sober ride.
In addition to checking for impaired drivers, law enforcement officers will also be on the lookout for aggressive or reckless driving, speed violations, failure to maintain lanes, hands-free law violations, and failure to wear seat belts.
