MMC CEO Joey Peay signs the last beam before being placed atop their new facility being constructed on Lascassas Pike.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — Murfreesboro Medical Clinic (MMC) celebrated a major construction milestone Thursday, July 17, as the final beam was hoisted into place during a topping out ceremony at its new healthcare facility on Lascassas Pike.

The two-story medical center broke ground last month on June 4 and is designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of east Murfreesboro. The topping out marks the completion of the building’s structural framework, bringing the project one step closer to opening its doors.

As MMC commemorates its 75th year of service, the new location will offer expanded outpatient services and improved access to care for residents in the area. The facility is located between DeJarnette Lane and Compton Road, with plans underway to widen Lascassas Pike from two lanes to five—an infrastructure upgrade being discussed by city officials and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to support increased traffic and accessibility.

A key feature of the expansion is a full-service emergency department (ER) being developed in partnership with Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford. Unlike the coincidental proximity of their Westlawn facilities, this collaboration was planned from the start to provide seamless, high-quality care.

MMC President and CEO Joey Peay emphasized the clinic’s commitment to healthcare accessibility and strategic growth, noting that the new ER will be located adjacent to the medical center to better serve the community.

We will continue to follow the progress of both the MMC facility and the freestanding Ascension ER as they take shape to meet the evolving needs of Murfreesboro’s east side.

Meanwhile, city officials are engaged in discussions with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) regarding plans to widen Lascassas Pike from two lanes to five lanes, stretching from Clark Boulevard to Compton Lane. The infrastructure upgrade would support increased traffic flow and improve access to the new healthcare facility.

A unque part of the expansion is the addition of a full-service emergency department (ER), located adjacent to Murfreesboro Medical Center's complex. Peay noted that this model emerged organically after the success of the Westlawn development, where MMC and Ascension Saint Thomas unintentionally built facilities side by side.

“This time, it’s intentional,” Peay stated. “We approached Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford's leadership with the idea of strategically placing an emergency department alongside our new medical clinic, ensuring seamless, high-quality care for the community.”

Both organizations have now committed to the project, reinforcing their shared dedication to patient-centered healthcare and local partnerships.

MMC’s expansion on Lascassas Pike, between DeJarnette Lane and Compton Road, is part of its broader healthcare investment in Murfreesboro. As Murfreesboro Medical Clinic celebrates its 75th Anniversary, the medical provider responds even more to this city’s rapid population growth with enhanced services and infrastructure.

NewsRadio WGNS will continue to provide updates on the progress of both the Murfreesboro Medical Clinic facility and the adjacent freestanding Ascension emergency department (ER), designed to serve the evolving needs of east Murfreesboro residents.
