MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — The 32nd annual Spring Fling returns to Murfreesboro this week, once again transforming Rutherford County into the hub of Tennessee high school athletics. Hosted by the TSSAA, this four-day championship event is expected to welcome over 43,000 athletes, families, and fans from across the state, all here to compete in baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, and track and field.
Here’s a look at local baseball and softball matchups on Tuesday, the opening day of competition:
Class 4A Baseball
Blackman kicks off their Spring Fling run at Oakland High School, squaring off against Green Hill at 4 p.m. In the Siegel bracket, the host Stars meet Rossview at 6:30 p.m. on their home turf. You'll hear the Siegel game on 101.9, 100.5 WGNS and WGNSRadio.com beginning at 6:15pm airtime.
Class 1A Baseball
The three-time defending state champions Eagleville Eagles begin their title defense Tuesday at 1 p.m. against East Robertson. Their tournament bracket will be played at Eagleville, offering a home-field advantage as they pursue a fourth consecutive state crown.
Class 4A Softball
Last year’s state runner-up Stewarts Creek faces Green Hill Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Starplex Field #1, determined to return to the championship round. You'll hear this game on 101.9, 100.5 WGNS and WGNSRadio.com beginning at 1:45pm airtime.
Class 1A Softball
Eagleville Softball takes on North Greene Tuesday at 3 p.m. at McKnight Park, Field #4, looking to advance in the championship bracket.
Note: This schedule is for Tuesday only. Wednesday’s game times and opponents will be determined by the results of Tuesday’s matchups, just as Thursday’s games will depend on Wednesday’s outcomes, and so on for Friday. WGNS will provide updated game coverage and broadcast plans each day based on the progression of local teams.
