Tennessee Treasury to Help Murfreesboro Residents Find Missing Money at Berry Festival

May 13, 2025 at 04:42 pm by WGNS News

Rutherford County, TN - On Saturday, July 19, the Tennessee Department of Treasury – Unclaimed Property Division will be in Murfreesboro as part of its statewide tour to reconnect residents with their missing money. Last fiscal year, over $60 million in unclaimed property was returned to Tennesseans—many of whom were unaware they had money waiting.

As part of the Treasury’s outreach, representatives from the Unclaimed Property Division will attend major events in each of Tennessee’s three grand divisions. In Rutherford County, they’ll be at the 2nd Annual Berry Festival, taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hop Springs, located at 6790 John Bragg Highway.

Visitors can enjoy a berry-filled day with free admission, free parking, live music, and over 150 vendors offering home décor, handmade items, boutique goods, and berry-themed treats. Booths with red balloons signal those selling fresh berries, berry-flavored drinks and food, or berry-scented products.

Festivalgoers are encouraged to stop by the Unclaimed Property booth to find out if they are owed any missing money. Representatives will be available to help search names, walk residents through the claims process, and answer questions. Past attendees at similar events have discovered hundreds—and sometimes thousands—of dollars.

“These events have been an excellent opportunity for Treasury staff to work one-on-one with Tennesseans,” said State Treasurer David H. Lillard, Jr. “This is money we want to put back in the pockets of Tennesseans, so I encourage you to stop by our booth and take a few minutes to see if you have missing money.”

Unclaimed property is money that has been turned over to the state by businesses or organizations that could not locate the rightful owner. The Unclaimed Property Division is a consumer protection program that safeguards and returns those funds.

Tennesseans can also check for unclaimed money anytime by visiting ClaimItTN.gov and searching their name. There’s no fee or time limit to claim unclaimed property, which is held until the rightful owner or legal heirs come forward.

In the 2023–2024 fiscal year, the state returned 78,305 claims totaling $62.6 million. With millions more still unclaimed, the Division is working hard to reunite that money with its rightful owners.
