BLACKMAN, Tenn. (WGNS) — A string of overnight vehicle burglaries rocked the Blackman community early Tuesday, with home surveillance video capturing at least one suspect armed with an AR-style handgun, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Chris Wright reported that the incidents involved several young male suspects. “One passenger rummaged through the cars,” Wright said. “As he exited the car, he had an AR-style pistol in his hand.”
The suspects targeted both locked and unlocked vehicles, making off with purses and credit cards. The burglaries occurred along Burnt Knob Road, Sugartree Drive, Ruby Oaks Lane, and Shelly Plum Drive.
Investigators say a stolen credit card from one of the burglaries was used the following day at a Waffle House in Donelson, suggesting the suspects may reside in Nashville.
Residents in the area are shaken. “It’s terrifying to know someone with a gun was right outside my house while my family was sleeping,” said Shelly Plum Drive resident Angela Martinez. “We’ve always felt safe here, but now I don’t even want to let my kids out alone.”
Authorities are urging residents in the area to check their home surveillance footage and report any suspicious activity.
