Elderly Man Killed in Suspected Hit-and-Run on Old Nashville Highway

LA VERGNE, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating the death of an elderly man discovered early Thursday morning along a roadside in La Vergne, Tennessee.

La Vergne Police say the man's body was found around 6:00 a.m. on May 1 along the 500 block of Old Nashville Highway, approximately one mile northwest of Sam Ridley Parkway near Murray Lane.

Responding officers located the deceased man lying on the side of the roadway. According to an official statement, the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Fatal Accident Crash Team was requested to take over the investigation, as the incident may involve a vehicle.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) later confirmed that preliminary information suggests the man was the victim of a hit-and-run, believed to have occurred between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name or a cause of death, though police have confirmed that the man’s family has been notified.

Investigators are now seeking help from the public. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information about the vehicle or driver involved is urged to contact the Tennessee Highway Patrol Emergency Dispatch Communications Center at 615-744-3091, press 0, and ask to speak with Trooper Lloyd Elliott.
