MURFREESBORO, TN - Next week, a murder case will make its initial appearance in Rutherford County General Sessions Court, where the suspect faces a single charge of second-degree murder. The investigation into the death of 27-year-old Jaleel Turner began after his body was found on the floor of his apartment on October 13, 2024. The apartment complex where the death was reported to authorities is “The Southern,” a housing unit on Lascassas Pike in Murfreesboro.
Assistant District Attorney Trevor Lynch told WGNS that 23-year-old Shaquira Brown was the only person inside the residence when Murfreesboro Police arrived on the scene...Brown, a resident of Lascassas, was arrested the same day Turner’s body was discovered and has remained in custody since. She was 22 at the time of the alleged shooting.
Police say Turner was shot once inside his apartment around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13. Investigators believe the incident happened during or immediately following an argument between the two.
A motion to reduce Brown’s bond was initially scheduled for January but was postponed after a mental health evaluation was ordered. Her bond remains set at $750,000, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
Brown’s first criminal hearing is scheduled for this Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Ben Hall McFarlin III.
