MT. JULIET, TN — A domestic violence call in Wilson County escalated into a fatal officer-involved shooting Tuesday evening after a man reportedly fired at deputies during a standoff. The incident occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. in the 5100 block of Benders Ferry Road near the Cumberland River in the Mt. Juliet area.

Deputies with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office had responded to the residence earlier in the afternoon following a domestic disturbance report. Upon arrival, the suspect barricaded himself inside the home, prompting a prolonged negotiation effort that lasted for over three hours. Authorities shut down Benders Ferry Road around 3 p.m. as law enforcement worked to resolve the situation.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), the man eventually exited the home and fired a handgun toward deputies. Officers returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect. No deputies were injured during the confrontation.

TBI agents were called to the scene at the request of 15th Judicial District Attorney General Jason Lawson and are now conducting an independent investigation. Their work includes collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reconstructing the sequence of events that led to the shooting. The TBI emphasized that its role is solely investigative and that any decision on the justification of the officers' actions will be made by the district attorney.

The TBI does not release the identities of officers involved in shootings, deferring those inquiries to the local law enforcement agency.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
