SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS) - Parkway Baptist Church is excited to announce an upcoming two-day conference featuring Research Leaders from The Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts (CSNTM). The event will be held on Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17, and will dive deep into the origins, history, and trustworthiness of the New Testament.

Under the leadership of Pastor Shelby Hazzard, PBC is proud to host this conference for the first time. The sessions will be led by Denis Salgado and Preston Russell, who bring a wealth of research experience from CSNTM, a non-profit organization based in Plano, Texas, dedicated to the digital preservation of Greek New Testament manuscripts.

Pastor Shelby Hazzard said at a time when many question the authority and reliability of Scripture, it's vital for believers to be equipped with a solid foundation for their faith:

CSNTM’s mission is to digitally preserve Greek New Testament manuscripts and provide resources and education to help trace the history of Scripture through the centuries. Founded by Executive Director Dr. Daniel B. Wallace, CSNTM plays a critical role in making sure these ancient texts are preserved for future generations.

The conference will feature seven in-depth sessions, including:

  • The Autographs: Exploring the original documents that became the New Testament.

  • The Canon of the New Testament: Understanding how the 27 books of the New Testament were recognized as Scripture.

  • The Copies: Examining the painstaking efforts to preserve and transmit the New Testament.

  • The Copyists: Discovering who the scribes were and how they worked.

  • What’s in New Testament Manuscripts?: Learning about the significance of these ancient artifacts to early Christians.

  • The Art and Science of Textual Criticism: Seeing how scholars work to reconstruct the most accurate text possible.

  • Translating the New Testament: Appreciating how the New Testament has been faithfully brought into modern languages.

Each session will build on the last, offering attendees a fuller understanding of why we can trust the Bible today. A Q&A time will also allow participants to engage directly with the speakers.

This event is open to everyone—pastors, church leaders, students, and anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of the Word of God.
