UPDATE | Murfreesboro Motorcyclist Identified in Fatal South Church Street Crash

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — The motorcyclist killed in a crash on South Church Street Thursday evening has been identified as 21-year-old Dax Van Ekelenburg of Murfreesboro, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department.

The collision occurred near the intersection of South Church Street and South Rutherford Boulevard. A report indicated that a sedan struck Van Ekelenburg, who sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital. He later died from his injuries.

The driver of the sedan was not injured. Following the crash, the sedan reportedly caught fire, prompting police to shut down the roadway and reroute traffic while emergency crews worked the scene.

Murfreesboro Police’s Fatal Accident Crash Team is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. No charges have been filed, and no further details have been released.
