Substitute Teacher Charged with Public Intoxication at Siegel Middle School

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - A substitute teacher at Siegel Middle School was charged with public intoxication Wednesday after school officials raised concerns about her behavior, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

Deborah Gentry, who was serving as a substitute, was suspected to be under the influence of prescription medication while on campus, said School Resource Officer Austin Wortman.

There was concern regarding her condition, and appropriate action was taken,” Wortman stated. SRO Sgt. Irvin Turner confirmed that at no point were any students in danger during the incident. Following the investigation, Gentry was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

Rutherford County Schools has since notified parents about the situation to maintain transparency and assure the community of student safety.

Record information from the Sheriff’s Office show that Gentry was released from custody at around 7pm on Wednesday.
