UPDATE: MURFREESBORO, TN — The Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is investigating a serious head-on collision that left five people injured on Tuesday evening, April 22.
The crash occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Highway 99 near Veterans Parkway. According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a Buick Enclave crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic, narrowly avoiding one vehicle before striking a Toyota Highlander head-on. The force of the impact caused the Highlander to spin and collide with a Cadillac Escalade.
Emergency crews from the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) responded to the scene and extricated an adult from the Highlander. A resident nearby assisted in removing an infant, who was secured in a child restraint seat, from the same vehicle. Personnel from MFRD and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services (RCEMS) treated victims at the scene.
Five individuals were transported to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to more serious. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the MPD FACT team.
