MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS - Motorists traveling along New Salem Highway between I-24 and Old Fort Parkway should expect delays this week as the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) begins the final phase of its widening project
Crews started final paving and striping operations Tuesday morning, with work scheduled to continue through Friday. During this time, drivers will encounter lane closures and periodic traffic shifts as the roadway is resurfaced and new lane markings are applied.
TDOT has confirmed that one lane will remain open in each direction throughout the operation, but officials are urging drivers to use caution, plan for extra travel time, and stay alert for construction workers and equipment.
The project is part of a broader effort to improve traffic flow and safety on one of Murfreesboro’s busiest corridors. Once completed, the upgraded roadway is expected to ease congestion and support future growth in the rapidly developing area.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes if possible and monitor TDOT SmartWay or local traffic updates for real-time conditions.
