MURFREESBORO - A local nonprofit is calling on the community to help bring joy to underprivileged children in Rutherford County by sponsoring their birthdays. Candle Wishes, founded in 2002 by Jenny Williams, aims to fulfill birthday wishes and provide essential needs for children who might otherwise go without a celebration. She's looking for some help later this year: Williams says she even has some churches willing to help with the location if the potential sponsor needs a space to have the party.

Sponsors are provided with a wish list from the child's caregiver to help select gifts that will make the child's birthday truly special. The cost to sponsor a child typically ranges from $75 to $100, covering gifts and basic clothing needs. Sponsors are also encouraged to participate in the monthly birthday parties, where children and their families enjoy dinner, cake, games, and activities.
Children eligible for the program are identified through partnerships with the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program, school guidance counselors, social workers, and other philanthropic organizations.
Beyond birthdays, Candle Wishes connects families with resources for healthcare, spiritual support, and personal care needs, striving to make a holistic impact on the lives of children and their families.
