MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — A morning jog took a terrifying turn for an 18-year-old woman after she was attacked on a walking trail behind Oaklands Park on Maney Avenue early Monday, April 14.
Murfreesboro Police say the attack occurred around 8:30 a.m., prompting an immediate search for the suspect. Later that same day, officers responded to a theft reported at the Murphy Express gas station on Memorial Boulevard, where they encountered and identified 23-year-old Xavier Carter as the suspect wanted in the earlier assault.
Following his arrest, Carter was charged with kidnapping, sexual battery, and theft in connection to the gas station shoplifting incident. He is currently being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $30,000 bond. A hearing in General Sessions Court has been scheduled for June 3.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
