Rutherford County's 1st female Court Clerk Georgia Lynch passed away

Murfreesboro, TN - Rutherford County’s first female County Clerk Georgia Ann Rion Lynch passed away Monday, April 14, 2025, at Alive Hospice. Visitation will be from noon to 3:00PM this Saturday (4/19/2025) at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home, and the celebration of Georgia’s life will be at 3:00PM.  

In 2002, after more than 30 years of dedicated service in the Rutherford County Clerk’s office, Georgia Lynch announced her retirement, stepping down from the post she had held for the past seven years.

Lynch’s career began as Chief Deputy County Clerk, a position she held for 27 years before making history as Rutherford County’s first female County Clerk. She was elected in 2002 and went on to serve two four-year terms, overseeing critical office operations, including the collection of the wheel tax.

Reflecting on her tenure, Lynch expressed confidence in passing the reins to new leadership. “I’m ready, and it’s time to turn it over to somebody else,” she remarked.

Her commitment to public service and dedication to customer-focused administration have left an enduring impact on the Clerk’s office.

Beyond her professional achievements, Lynch is known for her love of family, friends, and a variety of hobbies, including golf, bridge, and Tennessee Walking Horses. Her passion for both work and life has made her a respected figure in Rutherford County, ensuring that her legacy will be remembered for years to come.

She was a Murfreesboro Central High School graduate and a native of Murfreesboro. Georgia was born to the late Edwin Clark and Virginia Louise Rion. She was preceded in death by her brother Edwin Clark Rion Jr.

Georgia was a First United Methodist Church member, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Thomas Hughes Lynch; sons, Thomas Clark Lynch and Trevor Hughes Lynch; grandchildren, Thomas Alan (Talan) Lynch and Maxwell (Max) Rion Lynch; sister, Betty Jo Fanelli; and niece, Tracy Elizabeth Sharpe.

There will be a visitation from 12:00 to 3:00 on Saturday, April 19th, at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home, with a service at 3:00 o’clock that afternoon. Family and friends are welcome to attend to honor and celebrate Georgia's life.

In lieu of flowers, the Family requests donations to the Hospice of Murfreesboro in her memory.
