FAYETTEVILLE — Lincoln County High School has announced the hiring of Dyron Birdwell as the new head coach of the Falcons boys’ basketball program. Birdwell was most recently the head coach of the Oakland Patriots before stepping down nearly a month ago.

Birdwell’s head coaching résumé includes successful stints at both Oakland and Siegel High Schools, where he compiled a career record of 150-122, including a 59-37 mark in district play. Over his coaching tenure, his teams have earned:

  • 2 Regular Season District Championships

  • 3 District Tournament Runner-Up finishes

  • 1 Region Runner-Up

  • 1 Region Championship

  • 2 Sectional Appearances

  • A trip to the 2021 TSSAA State Tournament

Before leading his own programs, Birdwell served as an assistant varsity and head freshman coach at Oak Ridge High School under the guidance of legendary coach Aaron Green. While at Oak Ridge, the program captured four district tournament titles, two region championships, and made three consecutive state tournament appearances, including a state runner-up finish in 2014.

Birdwell’s coaching career began at the collegiate level as a student manager at the University of Tennessee under then-head coach Bruce Pearl, now the head coach at Auburn University.

Originally from Lafayette, Tennessee, Birdwell has been married to his high school sweetheart Kara for ten years. The couple has a four-year-old daughter named Jayla.

Lincoln County will host a community meet-and-greet with Coach Birdwell for players, parents, and fans on Tuesday, April 15 at 5:00 p.m. in the Lincoln County High School gym.
