Murfreesboro, TN - Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) officials have confirmed that changes were recently made in a federal immigration database for some international students. The university emphasized its commitment to following all federal and state laws while offering support to the affected students.
In a statement, MTSU reaffirmed its dedication to its international student community, saying, “We greatly value our international student community, and, through our International Affairs office, we are reaching out to impacted students and are working to answer any questions they may have.”
University officials reported that four students had their visas revoked by the Department of Homeland Security, with indications that those affected may be returning to their home countries. If they remain in the U.S. without valid visas, they could be in violation of immigration law.
The impact is not isolated to MTSU. The University of Tennessee (UT) has reported that nine international students are at risk of deportation due to similar visa-related issues.
As universities navigate federal immigration policies, institutions continue to work to provide guidance and resources to students facing uncertainties about their status.
