UPDATED: MURFREESBORO, TN - Investigators with the Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) are still looking into a crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

The collision, involving a motorcycle and a car, occurred at the intersection of N. Rutherford Boulevard and Greenland Drive. Officers responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m., where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead by Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services.

Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of a 2016 Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on N. Rutherford Blvd. in the left-turn lane. That driver attempted to make a left turn on a solid green light, failing to yield the right of way and colliding with the motorcycle. The rider, operating a 2024 Kawasaki EX5, was traveling northbound on N. Rutherford Blvd. FACT investigators are working to determine whether speed was a contributing factor on the part of the motorcyclist.

The identity of the deceased rider will be released after out-of-town family members have been notified. Police confirmed that the driver of the car was not injured. As of Friday evening, the fatal crash remains under investigation by the FACT team.

In light of this crash and other recent motorcycle-related incidents in the city, the Murfreesboro Police Traffic Unit and members of the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force will host a Motorcycle Safety Event on May 17, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Bumpus Harley-Davidson of Murfreesboro on NW Broad Street.

PREVIOUS REPORT - Murfreesboro, TN - A tragic overnight crash between a vehicle and motorcycle at the intersection of North Rutherford Boulevard at Greenland Drive has claimed the life of a motorcyclist, according to local authorities.

Emergency responders from Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue and the Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services stabalized the victim at the crash scene, and then rushed the injured rider to the ER at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital, but the motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries.

The Murfreesboro Police Department's Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is actively investigating the cause of the crash. As a result, North Rutherford Boulevard was shut-down in both directions for much of the evening. 

Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the accident. Updates will be provided here on WGNS as more information becomes available.
