Another Update on YOUR Missed Jury Duty - - The Sheriff’s Office Is Definitely Not Calling You!

Mar 12, 2025 at 11:01 am by WGNS News

UPDATE: Just when we thought scammers had exhausted their creativity, they’ve outdone themselves, again. Two days ago, WGNS reported that fraudsters were impersonating the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, using the names of real deputies (plus a few they clearly made up) to convince people they had missed jury duty, skipped court, or owed a fine. And guess what? The calls are still happening! That can only mean one thing—some poor souls are actually falling for it.

But why stop at one county when you can double your fraudulent earnings? Enter Williamson County, the latest victim of this never-ending phone scam saga. Now, in addition to receiving a bogus call from Rutherford County’s "Sheriff’s Office" one day, you might be lucky enough to get another from Williamson County the next! Because, of course, it’s completely normal to be called for jury duty in a county you don’t even live in. Makes total sense.

Here’s a fun fact: The real Sheriff’s Office doesn’t call you about jury duty. They send official summons via mail. And if you really ignore it, a real deputy will show up at your real door, wearing a real uniform, and driving a real patrol car. Crazy concept, right?

To clarify, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is not calling residents about missed jury duty. In fact, they’ve had to issue a public statement to remind people that they will never request payment to avoid arrest. If you get one of these calls, hang up. If you feel like trolling the scammer for fun first, well, that’s up to you.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to spread the word, especially to vulnerable family members who might not be aware of these scams. Because the sooner we all stop falling for these ridiculous cons, the sooner these scammers will have to go find an honest way to make a living—unlikely as that may be.
