Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland:

  • More road projects than any other time
Highway 99 (to Eagleville) continue widening
Thompson Lane (largest road project in local history $155-million
        Veterans Parkway
Medical Center Parkway (widening from 4 to 6 lanes around Fountains, hospital, etc.)
Butler Dr. (Buc-ee's) should open 2026, site work not underway
  • Trader Joe's opening around April 1, 2025. In addition, the developer built and funded the construction of a new turn lane from Medical Center Parkway, as well as built a road behind the store that connects Robert Rose Drive with the Avenue of Murfreesboro.
  • Several interested parties have been looking at the former location for NOTES LIVE, only one was a similar venture
  • Rutherford Blvd. is the City's new "test road" for adaptive technology for computer traffic control. This is similar to how I-24 in this area has been the pilot project for traffic control.
  • Downtown development along Broad will have ground broken in the 3rd quarter, 2025 with the starting of the WGNS' building (corner of Sevier and S. Church (former City parking lot location). Once that is completed and WGNS has moved, the demolition of structures between South Church and Vine Street will begin. They daylighting of Town Creek will be taking place on the land parallel to Broad Street.
  • AFFORDABLE HOUSING: It's difficult with so many corporate owned homes.
