MURFREESBORO, TN - New fire department locations are being planned for Murfreesboro as more businesses and residents move into the area… That was Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Chief Mark McCluskey. He told WGNS they are still researching to decide which location would prove to be the best for a new fire hall.
When opening a new fire station, fire trucks have to be ordered about two years in advance of opening, due to the amount of cities replacing their existing fleet of vehicles. McCluskey said when buying new trucks, they can now choose if they want to add an electric firetruck to the lineup… The electric trucks are actually hybrid vehicles that also come with a diesel engine.
Outside of the firetrucks, purchasing new equipment to outfit a new fire station can prove to be a big undertaking… Hiring new personnel to man a new fire hall can also be a timely task. Nonetheless, it’s a task that has to be completed.
Currently, exact timelines on when the City will build and then open a new fire station have not been announced.
Murfreesboro Fire Rescue has an ISO Rating of #1, which is the highest rating a fire department can receive. To receive such a high rating, you have to have a short response time, on top of the right equipment and water supply, among other things. High ratings equal insurance savings for residents and business owners alike.
On a side note, Chief McCluskey recently celebrated his 40th anniversary with the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department. When asked if he envisioned the fire department growing like it has - since he first started in 1985, he told us… Hear our full interview with the chief HERE.
